Dr. Jacoby received his BS and MS in Biological Sciences from Illinois State University and his PhD in Biological Sciences from Stanford University. In addition, he obtained an MBA from the University of Western Australia.
Chuck is a Research Professor in the College of Marine Science at the University of South Florida and the Associate Director of the Florida Flood Hub. Before joining the Flood Hub, he led the Estuaries Section at the St. Johns River Water Management District.
Much of Chuck’s career has focused on translating science into management, so his research has dealt with numerous components of freshwater, estuarine, coastal, and
deepwater marine systems, including sediment porewater, water quality, benthic microalgae, freshwater vegetation, seagrasses, spring-fed systems, saltmarshes, macroalgae, plankton, meiofauna, macroinvertebrates, fish, and manatees. In addition, his MBA provides valuable insights into fostering shared visions, developing accountability, promoting organizational success, and working with partners, especially natural resource managers and industry. Chuck has led or managed multiple, large-scale, synthetic research projects, including a study of the ecology of Jervis Bay for the Australian Department of Defence and a study of the ecology of the Indian River Lagoon for the St. Johns River Water Management District.
Chuck holds a gubernatorial appointment to the Red Tide/Harmful Algal Bloom Task Force and co-chairs its Communications Work Group. In addition, he is the chair of the Community Stakeholder Advisory Committee for the Center for Coastal and Marine Ecosystems, which is a Cooperative Science Center funded by the NOAA Educational Partnership Program with Minority Serving Institutions, and he is a member of the Gulf and South Atlantic Regional Panel on Aquatic Invasive Species.
